trying to find a job in law enforcement, medicine completely disqualify you?

I'm not saying that I used an illegal substance in my past, the past as in high school and 1 year of college. I will graduate this year I wanted to know exactly how the background check? I heard that the local Police Department Do polygraph with an audit history of 3 years. I also heard that some agencies do not polygraph, but only give a reg. drug test. I just use more or has used an illegal substance since 2005, and again that it was unusual. It was more a "proving" or, once here and there. Since then I have been volunteering and community service for the city, hospital and church. Rather than tell the truth at trial and, if so completely jeprodize my career in CJ system? Need help service to the community and prove that I'm maturing? What can I do?

Think this for a while. Each of us at some point in the Times have done something we regret. Even law enforcement. Some of us just have not been caught. I am acceding to the Indiana State Police. My next problem is the lie detector (the majority of organizations today that this step is required) and if I go to bed anything about drug use to say, the person administering certainly look at that. There goes my career. If in doubt, tell the truth. Honesty is the best policy. Good luck.
